The solution is that Narayan tells us that Rama is known to have done that, but he leaves it out of the narrative. Ravana is an evil monster that is ruler of all evil wanting to destroy Rama.
But at least the gods in this version agree with me. And I was touched by naryaan book's deep wisdom and its keen insight into the human nature, coupled with a gripping narrative of action, in high tension.

I also find Hanuman, the king of the monkey people, an interesting character. I guess the whole world has heard of blue Rama and his beautiful Sita, but now that I'm actually reading the story, I find their love not as amazing as I thought.
I can see why Narayan might have felt there was a need for this update.
This is a fascinated hypothesis, but I wonder if it is a correct interpretation or just some gibberish talk. Feb 14, Bryce rated it it was amazing. There are different interpretations about Hanuman and the monkey people. However, as you read further on you would find the book more interesting. I will look at Valmiki version, at least to make a comparison between the two.
Can never tire of the story, but the condensed version or translation may have lost some of the lyricism of the fuller work. Nevertheless, I was foolishly mistaken!
